Belly Busters

It’s an accepted wisdom that we put on weight over winter, like putting on a coat to keep warm.
But in a society where our lifestyles don’t intrinsically change in colder weather, could it be just a convenient excuse to explain to ourselves why the kilos are creeping up?
One thing’s for sure, our bodies don’t automatically add fat just because the temperature drops. Not in a generally temperate climate, anyway.
Different food choices – specifically more food, and of the “comfort” variety – and less inclination to move around/exercise is the likely explanation.

When the weather warms up and flesh is to more exposed, panic sets in to shed the “winter coat” in record time; fad and crash diets and annual gym memberships that are used half a dozen times and left to lapse for 11 months abound.

Winter can in fact be the motivator you need to lose weight, or reshape your body in readiness for spring/summer.

“It is an ideal time to lose the stomach flab or love handles, because it gives your body time to recover and heal before the summer season,” says Sydney plastic surgeon Dr Mark Kohout.

You may decide to overhaul your  your diet and exercise regimen in a way that can be adapted comfortably into your lifestyle, for the long haul. Or, investigate options body contouring.

Whether opting for a non-invasive treatment such as liposculpture or lipodissolve, or a more invasive treatment for more dramatic results, such as a body lift or abdominoplasty, popularly known as the tummy tuck.  ”

“By the time summer arrives, all signs that you’ve had `work’ done will be eradicated, adds Dr Kohout. “It gives many people the opportunity to feel confident with their new look and create a wardrobe that makes the most of their new shape”.
