What beauty treatments can be done at home, and which in salons?

QUESTION: What beauty treatments can I do myself at home and which treatments must be done in the salon?

JEANNIE BOURKE SAYS:
The treatments you can safely do at home include facials, self-tanning (if you’re confident that you can avoid streaking) and manicures and pedicures, although never cut your cuticles or use a blade on your feet, or you could risk infection. Waxing of tricky areas, such as your bikini line, is really best left to the experts, as you’re dealing with hot wax in places that are hard to reach and to see.

It is recommended that you have a salon-facial every six weeks, to keep skin in top condition. As for massage, well it just makes sense to have that done in a salon for true pampering and relaxation.
